But there are many more... some that spread using Internet ports while you are connected; they love it if you have DSL or cable, but can even do their damage if you are using a dial-up connection. If you are like most of our clients, your virus protection is months, if not years, out of date. I advise you all to update your virus protection, even if it means dropping the $35 to pick up a new version.... even then, the shipping products are probably 6 months out-of-date.... so be SURE to update to the latest version over the internet... and keep them updated at least every month. ____ _ __ / '_ /_| / _ _ _ _ _ ( ///) ( |. Is that what that strange stuff was at the end of Michael's message? My test came through in ASCII at the bottom. I get his messages in straight text format on Eudora, (yes I still cling to 3.06 Lite instead of the 4.2/4.3 busy version that I bought). It kinda looks like some macro instruction. My new Palm V has a terminal program that emulates a VT100. With the proper adapter (cable already is null modem) it communicates fine with the TVS. I had to pull the RTS pin high but I did that inside the adapter. I just downloaded some other terminal programs to see if any work any better. The one I had was rather limited in features. Also, the screen is limited to 40 characters so I used the ascii mode. I just d/l-ed a new term program with wordwrap so I need to try that out. Gotta carry a magnifying glass to read 'em. It is great to have +ACI-instant+ACI- access into the system without having to start up the pc, or to be able to make changes in the TVS while the laptop is connected to the KSU. The other day, I was in a hurry to leave a site so I had packed up everything. Then the customer suddenly asked for one minor change in a menu (repeat 2 times instead of 3). The Palm V had me back in the system in less than a minute, made the change, and everyone's happy. I forget the exact url for the term program but some are available at www.tucows.com . Charles Anybody found a laptop with 2 serial ports that can connect to the ksu and the tvs simultaneously? ********************************************************* * To unsubscribe, e-mail kxt-request@kxthelp.com * * The KXT-Digest Home Page: http://kxthelp.com/ * ********************************************************* From owner-kxt@nccom.com Mon May 01 07:50:27 2000 Received: from majordom by bevo.nccom.com with local (Exim 2.12 #1) id 12mHWj-00067f-00 for kxt-outgoing@nccom.com; Mon, 1 May 2000 07:50:25 -0700 Message-ID: <00db01bfb37c$8f88ff60$236c98d0@mindfart.com> From: "Phil Samson" To: References: Subject: KX-T: Re: WARNING - You must update your virus protection Date: Mon, 1 May 2000 09:50:15 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="----=_NextPart_000_00D8_01BFB352.A678FBA0" X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2919.6600 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.2919.6600 Sender: owner-kxt@nccom.com Precedence: bulk This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_00D8_01BFB352.A678FBA0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Yeah, here (look at bottom) is the Javascript I found in that message. = Nasty! =20 I had NO IDEA you could get Outlook Express to Execute nasty code like = this without even having to open the email or an attachment!=20 =20 It looks like it adds lines to your Registry and AUTOEXEC.BAT so next = time you reboot it will insert iteslf into your Outlook Express 5 = Signature field. It's an add-on but it works well. I used the $200 "Call Handler" from Mike Sandman (I believe it's made by Woodtel http://www.woodtel.com/ ) The box can be programmed to send a hookflash to the co, then dial the number to transfer to, then hang up. I put this unit on a spare analog port (I used the left over port from the tvs extension, 216). Then put an option in the tvs menu that will transfer the call to extension 216. Any co call sent to 216 will be handled by the call handler, hookflashed and transfered to the programmed number. That's the simplified version. I actuall have the 1st menu option send the caller to a second menu. The 2nd menu is just a message that tells them to stay on the line while the call is transfered, because there will be some blank time, music on hold will not play, so you don't want them to think they were disconnected. That 2nd menu only repeats once and then transfers to 216. I also did not program the number to transfer to into the c.h. box, instead, I programmed it as a speed dial in the centrex system. Then I programmed the c.h. box to dial the speed dial code * 2. If they need to change the transfering number at all, they will only have to change the centrex number. I felt the centrex programming was easier to do than the call handler, so the customer can do it themselves if necessary. Of course, one call handler box will only handle on call at a time, but since you are using the centrex transfers, once a call is transfered then the box is ready for another. If you expect high traffic you could put two boxes in a hunt. My customer has had it running since last november (99) with no complaints at all. Much better than tying up two lines for the duration of each transfered call. In our first test installation, we had constant loud clicking on port one (but not port two), with the identical connections that worked fine for a TVS75 and TVS100. We had used a 15' flat line cord, but when we replaced it with a 15' twisted-pair (Cat 3) cord, the noise disappeared. We found the problem with two samples of the VS50, but the clicks were louder on one than the other, and neither VS50 had noise on port two. (2) The instructions (Section 4.3.1 and perhaps other places) refer to "position 5" for the DIP switch, which makes no sense; and tells us to put an un-named switch in position 0. Try a Proctor 46222 or 46224 in front of the phone system and it will bring the voltages up to a level the Watson board can handle. In our neck of the woods, the telco is obligated to make an FCC registered system work, so if they put in new technology that makes your stuff not work, it is their problem. The short term solution is to look in the Gear or the Mart and find a used Proctor. New they are kinda expensive. Carl Navarro P.S. The latest and greatest software is available on www.deltavoice.com. It's pretty straightforward and why do you want to upgrade? If the Rhet card came from Deltavoice, you don't need a key. If it didn't, you should have a parallel port key. It will run on a 386-66 DX machine or greater, although the earlier Rhet boards don't take kindly to Pentium machines. The Dells and the Packard Bells have problems in the A20 lines. I find that MSD needs to report 640 (not 639) K of memory and the a00 second page of memory MUST be all FFFF's in the bottom 4 rows to handle the VM overhead. I dno't know why, it just does :-) The Gene guy who used to be at Delta Voice is gone, they moved the company to Seattle area and he stayed in MO or wherever. They seem to be pretty responsive and the will give you the password for the latest software and, in my case, they even sent 2 manuals for my 2 keys that I bought 2 years ago. Good luck, and let me know what you find. Whenever a call comes in on line one, they must answer on the first ring, or risk losing the call. If allowed to ring a second, or subsequent time, the caller will hear a click like the call has been answered, but that is all. Just silence. My customer hears the silence if he has tried to answer the call. And that is the quirky part. Even if he has not attempted to answer the call, the caller will hear the click/silence and the button will light red on all phones. It will stay red for several seconds. Long enough for the original caller to call again and hunt past line one. First thought, bad port. Rearranged the lines so that they come in on different ports. Reprogrammed the phones so that the lines come in on the proper buttons. Problem remains. Put in CO module, put all lines into module. Problem remains. By moving the problem around (following line one) we would assume the problem to be a Telco problem. But the lights! Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks in advance. Also, modems with CID enabled are notorious for false trips! A .22 mf cap switched accross the line during ring cycle for CID reception can look like an off-hook. If you must use a modem for CID (logging) use a .047 cap in series with the tip or ring. A good use for a 14.4 modem ;-) The fact the co line button is going steady means something on the 816 is going off hook for whatever reason. Usually a high voltage break-down in the ringer circuit. -larry MCS Man wrote: > > Have a customer with an older td816, configured 4 x 8, nothing fancy. > > Whenever a call comes in on line one, they must answer on the first ring, or > risk losing the call. I just added 3 new extensions to a customers VA412 system. Everything worked fine yesterday. Today they have a complaint. After about 2 normal rings for an incoming call, the system will only give very brief short rings until the call is answered. The secretary was missing calls not realizing that it was a real call. When I showed up, of course, the lines rang ok for at least 4 or 5 attempts then it happened to me too. Some details: 1. they have 2 co's, it happens on both 2. it does not happen for every call, but it will happen often, and often for many times in a row 3. I plugged the fax line in as line 3 and it happened on that line also, again not for every call. 4. there was a lightning storm yesterday! 5. butt set rings normally 6. I have not taken voltage or current readings yet 7. caller still hears ring, light continues to flash, and call can still be picked up. 8. One more odd thing, when the secretary called me at my office to report the trouble, in the middle of our conversation, she was suddenly cut off and I got my intercom dial tone (I have a D1232), when I looked at my phone, the co button was still red so I pressed it and she was still talking to me as if nothing had happened (This is where the possession theory comes in, the evil spirit is traveling through the wires).... I was fiddling with my headset at the time but I can't see how that would have effected anything... Could a problem in the phone company's switch cause weak ring signals? More likely I suspect lightning damage to the co cards, yet one card was not connected to any co lines yesterday but shows the same problem (I know, a surge could get through the ac lines). Keep it handy, but you'll probably get the most help here on the list. couple things, when you connect the vm by dpits, one jack gives you two ports. so using jacks 21 and 22 will give you 4 ports. if you want the night calls to go directly into voicemail, just set night time dil 1:1 to ext. 165. You do not need to use ring groups for this. In the KXT program, see that the vm integration is set up (prog numbers 118 and 119) it will automatically set up the extensions. when you set up the vm port options, you can determine what custom menus you want to use for night greetings. hope this helps a bit charles ----- Original Message ----- From: Ross Lindahl To: kxthelp Sent: Wednesday, May 10, 2000 7:03 PM Subject: KX-T: Voice mail > > All > Setting up a tvs200 with td1232. In analog: 81= co 1; 82=co2, 83 = co3 etc. In digital: 81= trunk group 1, 82= trunk group 2, etc. If all the co's are in trk grp 1, then 82 won't do anything; "co not assigned" on the display. I usually put most co's into 1 trunk group unless there are special co's, that way 9 or 81 will give the dialer the higher number co. Many companies do not have all their lines on a roll over, so this way outgoing calls will fill up starting with the higher number co, leaving the lower number co's for incoming calls. (I still have to think a bit about the 9 problem, one possibility is that for 9 to grab a line, a button for a line in trk grp 1 needs to be present on the phone... that's just what comes to mind right now. does the display say anything?) charles ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Sunday, May 14, 2000 9:47 PM Subject: KX-T: KXTD816 > > Hi, > I have a 100% success rate with you guys so lets try this one.
