See, no seems to remember "40" despite being told.... Suggestions? Something obvious I've missed? Have the lobby phone hot dial (742xxx*; 741) phantoms or group when picked up. If it is also used as a courtesy phone, use one with several programable buttons, one programmed for hot dial. ********************************************************* * To unsubscribe, e-mail kxt-request@kxthelp.com * * The KXT-Digest Home Page: http://kxthelp.com/ * ********************************************************* From owner-kxt@nccom.com Tue Jan 02 19:41:37 2001 Received: from majordom by bevo.nccom.com with local (Exim 2.12 #1) id 14Denv-0000JC-00 for kxt-outgoing@nccom.com; Tue, 2 Jan 2001 19:41:35 -0800 Message-ID: <006e01c07537$0af42f40$99f4a8c0@LAPTOP> From: "Jay Elliott" To: "KXT Help" Subject: KX-T: Used Equipment Pricing Date: Tue, 2 Jan 2001 22:41:20 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2314.1300 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.2314.1300 Sender: owner-kxt@nccom.com Precedence: bulk Hi All, Hope everyone had a nice New Year's I have 3 used Pansonic systems (2 -TD816-3/1-TD1232-3/15-KXT-7330's ) I was wondering what everyone is charging clients for them. Once they are working, they stay working so you could safely warrant them yourself for a year just as new and the software is -3. The 7330's ??? - I bet you mean 7230's - maybe $150 - $175 with a 6 month warranty. This of course depends on the condition of the phones. I charge $60/hr now and feel the same financial stress. Those unseen expenses, gas, taxes, insurance, health, etc. are all going up. Sprint is in my market and charge between $60 and $80 depending on the type of service. Any other comments are welcome by anyone. (i dont). Yep, now it gets interesting. I have been at $52 for the last 3 years and I made up the difference in trip charges. In essence, to walk into a customer's door, the normal minimum charge is 3/4 labor and $8-30 trip charge depending on zone and routing. I feel comfortable going to $60 and reducing the minimum to 1/2 hour. That softens the blow to the 15 minute job customer but it might put me out of range on system quotes. I'll have to play with the numbers. The trunkers aren't my only competition; how about the IBEW and electricians that make $30/hr? Clearly, if everyone paid a flat rate ie give me 8 hours work a day so I can make $250 a day in labor plus materials, everything would be fine. In 20 or so years, that hasn't happened. In good days on average, you spend 2 hours to bill one and I hate working with two rate cards (construction and service), so what do others do? Then I could mention national accounts..... I just dumped one of them. It was one of those that gave me about $200 worth of work in 1999 and then they expect me to give them high priority for a discounted labor ticket on a non-critical job. Yeah, back of the bus as far as I was concerned. I think the high-priority job that I finished is still unused 3 months after it was completed. Anyway, health insurance is almost double, fuel costs are up 50%, a certain individual is still selling Pana at 1.2 markup and I need a 1.3 to make it worth bringing it into inventory, and the economy is headed into the dumper. Outside of that, how's it going? Please respond to e-mail, I guess this is a bit off-topic :-). Just fyi. When they sell a KXT-A624 at $400 and I pay about $379 for it, I might have to move to Michigan so I can get a concealed weapons permit :-). It makes it easier to raise labor rates. Here in NY area, I was at $65 for a few years, then went up to $75. Now I'm considering going to $80. I tend to be generous with time, 60 to 80 minutes can equal 1 hour, 90 mins is 1.5. ... no charge for coffee breaks, and no extra charge for doing a good job either. For non local customers I add 1/2 travel time. I was talking to one of our list members in Texas (I think?) who said he was also at $75. cp ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carl Navarro" To: Sent: Wednesday, January 03, 2001 10:56 AM Subject: Re: KX-T: HOURLY RATE > At 07:19 AM 1/3/2001 -0800, you wrote: > >southern california can be tough. we have $35 p/hr trunkslammers to $105 > >p/hr lucent. i went from $60.00 to $70.00 last year and not one customer > >batted an eyelash! some have a $25.00 trip charge (i dont) and few have a 2 > >hour min. Pricing, well if we all dip below a 30% markup after shipping, we all should be shot. The PANASONIC stuff is worth ever penny and if you have to give it away you don't want that customer anyway. I totally agree with Jim Marks. We abandoned the low end market years ago, just not enough to make a profit. These type of buyers, usually don't want a maintenance contract and they want everything for nothing. When these type of buyers call and want a bid, we usually qualify them to see if they are serious or just fishing for the lowest price. If absolute low price is there objective, we decline to bid. That really throws them for a loop. They ask why, and we tell them that we have great sales and service and that offering the lowest price isn't going to get them that type of service. You would be surprised how many people we turn to our way of thinking. Especially when they read between then lines. (hey, the trunker low bidder might not be there for me when I need them) Oh yea our rates, we charge $29 trip, $75 hour. Full hour billed. But we are generous with the time. No complaints yet. Business will pay when the feel the are getting quality service. Concerning the used kx-td equipment. I've thought of disallowing attachments, HTML, and all associated junk for a while now. I just know that I'd be besieged with complaints from people who wonder why their posts are being rejected, not to mention those people who "upgrade" to AOL 6.0 and find that they can no longer send text e-mail no matter what they do. That said, the recent flood of virus attachments (who ARE these people???) has made me seriously consider it. However, I'm leaving town on Monday for an extended vacation and I don't like to make any changes in the week before I leave (I've learned this lesson the hard way). Another reason I should do this is it would allow me to automate the digest version, which hasn't come out in a while because manual moderation takes so much time. ********************************************************* * To unsubscribe, e-mail kxt-request@kxthelp.com * * The KXT-Digest Home Page: http://kxthelp.com/ * ********************************************************* From owner-kxt@nccom.com Wed Jan 03 19:46:27 2001 Received: from majordom by bevo.nccom.com with local (Exim 2.12 #1) id 14E1M9-0000eA-00 for kxt-outgoing@nccom.com; Wed, 3 Jan 2001 19:46:25 -0800 Message-ID: <002701c07600$dbe6fdc0$1011c897@bellatlantic.net> From: "Christopher J. Some people need professional help, (I'll skip the obvious line here) and hire installers. The market is big enough for all of us, so let's try to keep this list a helpful reference, rather than use it to take shots at each other. ********************************************************* * To unsubscribe, e-mail kxt-request@kxthelp.com * * The KXT-Digest Home Page: http://kxthelp.com/ * ********************************************************* From owner-kxt@nccom.com Wed Jan 03 19:46:42 2001 Received: from majordom by bevo.nccom.com with local (Exim 2.12 #1) id 14E1MP-0000eT-00 for kxt-outgoing@nccom.com; Wed, 3 Jan 2001 19:46:41 -0800 From: David Lesher Message-Id: <200101040344.WAA03921@sigma.nrk.com> Subject: Re: KX-T: Virus Warning on Msg from sender hahaha To: kxt@kxthelp.com (KXT Mailing list) Date: Wed, 3 Jan 2001 22:44:37 -0500 (EST) Cc: jimmy@kxthelp.com (Jim Gottlieb) In-Reply-To: <20010103193158.W5377@nccom.com> from "Jim Gottlieb" at Jan 03, 2001 07:31:58 PM Reply-To: wb8foz@nrk.com X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.5 PL1] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-kxt@nccom.com Precedence: bulk Unnamed Administration sources reported that Jim Gottlieb said: > > I've thought of disallowing attachments, HTML, and all associated junk > for a while now. Ablecomm provides a service, as do all the other companies who use this list. Some people prefer do it yourself, and no matter what a dealer wants, they will do it themselves. Some people need professional help, (I'll skip the obvious line here) and hire installers. The market is big enough for all of us, so let's try to keep this list a helpful reference, rather than use it to take shots at each other. ********************************************************* * To unsubscribe, e-mail kxt-request@kxthelp.com * * The KXT-Digest Home Page: http://kxthelp.com/ * ********************************************************* ********************************************************* * To unsubscribe, e-mail kxt-request@kxthelp.com * * The KXT-Digest Home Page: http://kxthelp.com/ * ********************************************************* From owner-kxt@nccom.com Thu Jan 04 10:34:19 2001 Received: from majordom by bevo.nccom.com with local (Exim 2.12 #1) id 14EFDN-0000r1-00 for kxt-outgoing@nccom.com; Thu, 4 Jan 2001 10:34:17 -0800 From: "Dan Padilla" To: "KXT Help" Subject: RE: KX-T: HOURLY RATE Date: Thu, 4 Jan 2001 10:36:19 -0800 Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook IMO, Build 9.0.2416 (9.0.2910.0) X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.50.4133.2400 Importance: Normal In-Reply-To: <20010104.073822.-3711153.1.dr.dongle@juno.com> Sender: owner-kxt@nccom.com Precedence: bulk chris- i can make money because i am a trunkslammer with a well outfitted trunk, embroidered shirt, great pre-printed invoices and a customer base of 125. my customers will put up with a 2 to 3 day wait knowing i will always be the one coming out. no "new tech" syndrome. -----Original Message----- From: C L S [mailto:dr.dongle@juno.com] Sent: Thursday, January 04, 2001 4:38 AM To: powercom@ix.netcom.com Cc: kxt@kxthelp.com Subject: Re: KX-T: HOURLY RATE I don't see how you can make money with 1.4. Well, I have a liftgate in my mini-van, I wear regular shirts, I have used NEBS preprinted invoices for several years, and my customer base is in the same range. I also put a $17,000 addition on my house to house an office and a warehouse and the payment is due at the end of 2001. That's what scares me :-). I don't have enough nerve to charge 2X to install a phone, but I did raise my rate thanks to the input from this group. I guess the days of making inventory a profit center are slowly slipping away..... Oh wait! Secondary market Comdial doesn't have this problem. I think you definitely should do it (automatically bounce or strip non-ASCII messages). Does AOL 6 really not support text email? Well, they can use real software over AOL IP addresses still, can't they? Lots of lists have a no-HTML rule, and enforcement will increase if AOL demands it. But I agree with you about waiting until you'll be around to clean up the mess afterwards. Right, I couldn't have afforded the wiring and phone system in my house if I'd had to pay commercial rates. I'm sure the wire routing in the "wiring closet" would have been somewhat neater, but I'm *not* sure the wiring to the jacks would have been as good; I've seen too much of what various commercial AC and low-voltage people have done when working in old houses with plaster walls to be optimistic about that, though some do excellent work of course. For that matter, a friend had three wiring people refuse to bid on a project in his house, which is newer than mine. And doing it myself, I learned enough to maintain it. I will say that if I had (or do in the future) get things screwed up so badly that I couldn't fix it myself, and Marcus couldn't talk me through fixing it on the phone (that being where I bought the hardware), I'd expect to pay quite a lot to whoever I hired to come in and straighten it out. That's the risk you take doing it yourself, right? -- David Dyer-Bennet / Welcome to the future! / dd-b@dd-b.net SF: http://www.dd-b.net/dd-b/ Minicon: http://www.mnstf.org/minicon/ Photos: http://dd-b.lighthunters.net/ ********************************************************* * To unsubscribe, e-mail kxt-request@kxthelp.com * * The KXT-Digest Home Page: http://kxthelp.com/ * ********************************************************* From owner-kxt@nccom.com Thu Jan 04 22:22:02 2001 Received: from majordom by bevo.nccom.com with local (Exim 2.12 #1) id 14EQGH-0000xP-00 for kxt-outgoing@nccom.com; Thu, 4 Jan 2001 22:22:01 -0800 From: "David Dyer-Bennet" MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-ID: <14933.26625.813011.647061@gw.dd-b.net> Date: Fri, 5 Jan 2001 00:21:53 -0600 (CST) To: Subject: Re: KX-T: Virus Warning on Msg from sender hahaha In-Reply-To: Greg Satz's message of 4 January 2001 References: <20010103193158.W5377@nccom.com> X-Mailer: VM 6.63 under Emacs 20.3.1 Sender: owner-kxt@nccom.com Precedence: bulk Greg Satz writes on 4 January 2001 at 15:37:39 -0700 > Is it possible to strip attachments instead of rejecting all the messages > containing them? I don't know what's possible with the specific software used for this list, but with various list-management packages you can do things like this: If the message is mime multipart, and one of the parts is text/plain, send through that part and strip the rest. If the message is non-mime, send it through. If the message is mime single part text/plain, send it through. Otherwise bounce the message with an explanation. Thus no blank messages come through, and non-text parts come through either. -- David Dyer-Bennet / Welcome to the future! / dd-b@dd-b.net SF: http://www.dd-b.net/dd-b/ Minicon: http://www.mnstf.org/minicon/ Photos: http://dd-b.lighthunters.net/ ********************************************************* * To unsubscribe, e-mail kxt-request@kxthelp.com * * The KXT-Digest Home Page: http://kxthelp.com/ * ********************************************************* From owner-kxt@nccom.com Thu Jan 04 23:34:33 2001 Received: from majordom by bevo.nccom.com with local (Exim 2.12 #1) id 14EROS-0000y4-00 for kxt-outgoing@nccom.com; Thu, 4 Jan 2001 23:34:32 -0800 Message-Id: <200101050736.f057aea28617@earth.inco.com.lb> From: "Silicon Cave" To: , "Selectel" Subject: KX-T: Re: Disa Intercept.TD1232-3 Date: Fri, 5 Jan 2001 09:36:29 +0200 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Priority: 3 X-Mailer: Microsoft Internet Mail 4.70.1155 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-kxt@nccom.com Precedence: bulk Thanks Harry for your reply. How did you assign CO ringing mode? If you assigned it as DIL1:1 and the receiver is UCD, just set Call Forwarding - No Answer feature for all extansions inside of UCD.
