Some of my customers keep their main lines in one trunk group so outgoing calls only use the fax line when the main lines are busy. There are a couple of other uses too. If you get a stray fax coming in on another voice line, you can transfer it to the fax machine ext to see who's sending it. If you're using fax detection (from the voicemail or disa card) then you can have faxes come in on rollover lines and have more than one machine on multiple extensions to handle them. Even if everybody is blocked from using the fax line for either incoming or outgoing voice calls, it can still be nice to have the fax as an extension, with its line going throught the system.

Often, the only time you know the fax line has died is when somebody calls to tell you your fax isn't answering - tell them to dial an alternate (voice number) and transfer the call when it comes in.  Dial access another trunk group for outgoing.

Still receive faxes in spite telco's best effort to thwart you!

Some English translation is required in the above question, but I guess you're asking if you can make a phone answer a ringing line. The answer is yes, but only if it's ringing. You didn't say what system, but you simply program the incoming CO to ring that extension and it's done. If the analog phone is programmed to NOT ring, then you will need enter a code to have it answer, or change the ring programming. You can program "pick-up dialing" to make the phone automatically dial the "40" or other code, but that may bother people when they try to dial out. If you have a simple phone with a bunch of speed dial button, you might try programming them to dial the codes and label accordingly. I think your system is digital... KXTD codes: 4* = pick up ringing co line 40 = pick up a ringing phone in your ext. group 41 xxx = pick up a specific ext. that's ringing (ext. xxx) good luck Charles PS (Carl needs to study more email-englihs, thne it all maeks sense. Don't worry, your 60's experiences may help you understand the concepts better... When a call goes to the 5 sets, intercept routing can take over and pull it back to the voicemail so you won't need to use forwarding. Also, forwarding will never work when a call is ringing on multiple extensions. Intercept routing will only bring the call back to the main custom menu this way I think. You would need to have a "leave message" option on the menu. OR... if the sales desks do not need individual mailboxes, you can put them together in a TVS extension group. That is a voicemail programming feature that lets a group of extensions share one mailbox. The message lamp will light on all phones in the group. But they cannot have individual boxes. OR... THE best solution: Set up a phantom extension for the sales people (let's call it 200). Set up a new mailbox-200 and assign the phantom ext number to that mailbox. Program a button on each of their phones for that phantom extension. Also program a button right under it for message waiting for that mailbox. Make sure intercept routing is set to ext. 165. Now set the custom menu to call ext 200 when option "1 for sales" is pressed. It will ring all the phones with the phantom button, then after the intercept time it will go to mailbox 200. (Set the intercept timer for the number of rings before it goes to voicemail. default is 12, I usually use 4 or 5 rings). This works well, you just have to give up some buttons. You could have CO1 connected to line 1 tip and line 2 ring leads. (crossed pairs). The most basic test is to take the 6pos plug out of the ksu CO1/2 jack and plug it into a standard 2500 desk set. If the line is weak or noisy- the problem is toward the central office. If it sounds fine, the problem is on the ksu side (pretty rare for pano equipment). The digital systems don't have the loss problems that older systems had. The telco will always tell you the line is fine. We carry a 2500 in every truck. We will meet the telco at the customer site with the 2500 set in hand when they tell us it's the CPE. -larry --- Jacques Leisy wrote: > The volume is way to low. When you power down / up are you allowing them to have their little "bonding session" without ANY interruptions for a few minutes or so. If you have already done this, please excuse me, but it is surprising how often people take the instructions on the Pans "bonding" with a pinch of salt - yet it is vital to get it right. If there is *ANY* chance of a call coming in, an extension being lifted or a doorphone being pressed etc, wait until the system can be off-line for a while (perhaps late evening?) and then disconnect the CO lines coming in and pull the amphenol connectors which connect up the extensions. Power down both cabinets, wait a few seconds (say 10 ?) until all the relays have dropped out, then check that *NOTHING* can make the system do any work at ALL. Check one is set for slave and one for master and that the link is in place and secure Power the units back on together. Go and have a cup of coffee and an optional fag - take you time. Reconnect amphenol connectors and CO line jacks. Test it again. If there is still problem, get back to the group. CMD 109, slot (whatever) make A1 and A2 for 16 cct cards in both cabinets. CMD 6--? enable XDP ports. Remember that the DDK plugs have 2 extns on each plug, starting from hole 1 thru 4 (hole 1 & 2 being a pair) and the first 8 extn numbers on the card will take the (old) digital extn number plan and the second 8 will take the analogue extn numbers. If there is no dail tone on the ports a way to check that the card are active is test for side tone (battery) on the ports.
